What ARE THE “UNIT PERFORMANCE STANDARDS”?

The LEC Unit Performance Standards (or UPS) are a set of 12 Unit functions that are the MOST important for a Scouting Unit’s health, effectiveness, and growth. They aim to help units plan to deliver the highest quality Scouting experience for their members while ensuring a consistent application of Scouting’s aims and methods in all units. When I unit plans their year with these Standards in mind, and measures their effectiveness throughout the year, the unit will offer “Scouting at its best” to the young people they serve.

These standards are grouped into 3 categories:

Planning

People

Performance

Each standard includes 3 measurements:

Management: Who in your Unit manages the process?

Method: Does your Unit use the Council-recommended method?

Metric: Is your Unit successful in meeting a benchmark/goal?

What is its purpose?

  • Provides the template for planning an effective program.

  • Encourage and reward units that deliver a consistent, quality Scouting program.
