LEC 3 Minute Update - October 5, 2023

Mornin’, all! The leaves are starting to change colors, especially out here at Beaumont Scout Reservation. We are getting ready for Cub Haunted as you can see, it’s very spooky here at the Augustus and there is alot of stuff in this week’s three minute update. Here we go!

Please remember to use our Membership Resources Request form to request flyers, printed materials, giveaways, and other helpful recruitment items for your use! With Halloween coming up just around the corner, you’d be wise to hand out Scout stickers and promos with candy in your neighborhoods. Reach out now for those resources!

The upcoming Roundtable across the Lake Erie Council for this month will be for our Arrow of Light Scouts to meet the Troops in their service areas. Email Chip for questions.

You can register now for in-person trainings for your positions! Pack Leaders and Troop committee members can join us in Parma, Jefferson, Norwalk, Amherst, downtown, Chesterland, Painesville, or Fairview Park. These are free trainings, and we welcome the newest leaders to the most seasoned veterans: everyone can benefit from attending the latest trainings there are to offer! Let Megan know if you have any questions.

Rangemaster training is upcoming October 13th. Register here, and email Julia with questions.

Wilderness First Aid is still open for registrations, but do so soon! The course is the first weekend in November, and participants have until October 20th to register! Send Gary any questions you have about the course.

Additionally, please note that there will be training for Chartered Organization Representatives of all units offered in November at the Unit Service Center. This is for units chartered to a traditional organization, as well as to the Lake Erie Council. Send me any questions you have, and we hope to see you there!

There’s still time to register for Cub Haunted as a camper or as a volunteer for weekends two or three. Contact Jess Weaver with your questions!

Folks selling popcorn, remember that October 13th is the Amnesty deadline. Full cases of product that you need to return must be back to the Unit Service Center before 5:00 p.m. on the 13th. Let Heather McMillan know if you have any questions about this.

There’s a Cub College on the calendar in November in Chardon, as are there some Cub Fun Days at camp and a Council Raingutter Regatta! It might be getting colder, but that’s no reason to keep your Cub Scouts from having tons of fun!

Finally, remember that all units must be rechartered by December 8th, with confirmed rosters, money turned in to the Council, and signed approval from your COR by December 8th. This year, the Council is instituting a late fee of $100 for charters submitted after December 8th, or whose charters require significant fixes after December 8th. Key 3 Members and their delegates, you have all been sent an email with instructions and resources. Michelle Cali is happy to take all of your questions for charter renewal. Go to our website to learn more!

And that’s a wrap for this week’s three-minute update! Thanks for all you do and thanks for being you! We’ll see you next week!

LEC 3 Minute Update - September 21, 2023

Mornin’, all! I’m still wrestling with this clock: so far it’s Jake 2, Clock 1. How’s it going to pan out today? Let’s see!

In this week’s three minute update we have:  Cub Haunted, training updates, recruitment updates, and (SCREAMS) recharter updates, ew, oh god, why?

Folks, new members are steadily rolling in to Scouting all over the place this fall, as they should! So many of you are working crazy hard to get the word out and bring in more new Scouts. Many, many of these new members are hitting your rosters digitally, and this is your friendly reminder that these new families need welcomed and invited to your group once their application has been approved. Please, don’t forget to welcome them and invite them to your next activity!

If you have questions about how to access your new applications or find new members’ information, head on over to lecbsa.org/membership-resources. Also, use our Membership Resources Request form to request flyers, printed materials, giveaways, and other helpful recruitment items for your use! With Halloween coming up just around the corner, you’d be wise to hand out Scout stickers and promos with candy in your neighborhoods. Reach out now for those resources!

Those needing BALOO training and Scoutmaster Basic Training can also register here: courses are scheduled for September and October. You can contact me with your questions!

You can register now for in-person trainings for your positions! Pack Leaders and Troop committee members can join us starting October 4th in Parma, and there will be a lot more throughout the Council the rest of October! Let Megan know if you have any questions!

Rangemaster training is upcoming October 13th. Register here, and email Julia with questions.

Shoutout to all who attended the Fall Camporee and Webelos Woods this last weekend at Beaumont. If you’re still looking for something fun to do as a troop, note the fall camporee still upcoming at Firelands, with their adjoined Webelos woods as well! Send questions to Jess. You can also email Jess if your troop would like to help staff any of the three upcoming Cub Haunted weekends.

Now, here’s a somber reminder that time moves too quickly: I have an update about recharter. Yes, recharter season is almost among us. All units must be rechartered by December 8th, with confirmed rosters, money turned in to the Council, and signed approval from your COR by December 8th. This year, the Council is instituting a late fee of $100 for charters submitted after December 8th, or whose charters require significant fixes after December 8th. Michelle Cali is happy to take all of your questions for charter renewal. Go to our website to learn more!

And that’s a wrap for this week’s three-minute update! Thanks for all you do and thanks for being you! Man, these are almost getting too fast!

LEC 3 Minute Update - September 7, 2023

Mornin’ all, And thanks for tuning into this week's three minute update. I'm Jake Brown and this is Drew Poschner, my producer.

Drew, I don't know why you look so terrified, it's just a big truck here. We are, in fact, men of means by no means, moving popcorn for you guys to be ready for distribution this weekend and if you're on my favorites list that means we'll see it here pretty soon.

On the three minute update this week we have Ace Updates, Stewards of Beaumont , Training Updates, Cub Haunted, Camporees and Drew did I miss anything?

  That's all.

That's it, perfect! Right let's go ahead start with the Stewards of Beaumont. That's coming up on September 19th at 6:30 PM at Beaumont Scout Reservation. This is an opportunity for those with a philanthropic heart to be able to donate to some camp improvement projects to make camp even more beautiful and sustainable into the future. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to Anthony Dworning and register online on the council calendar link there before September 18th.

Now, about the upcoming lifeguard training at firelands which is on the calendar. It has since been postponed indefinitely. We do intend to have it, but it has been postponed for now. So, if you were planning on coming, please reach out to Jess Weaver if you have any questions about it. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you at some point in the future we're the lifeguard training.

Speaking of trainings, we have: Rangemaster Training, BALOO training, Scoutmaster Basic Training, and Position Specific Training all coming up within the next two months. You can let me know if you have any questions about that, I'll be happy to get back in touch with you probably as soon as I'm not driving the big rig.

Drew, what else do we have on that list?

Cub Haunted has open registrations at the moment.

Oh, that's good stuff and I tell you what registrations are filling up fast. We've got literally hundreds of Cub Scout families on list now.  So, if you’d like to come out for those, especially staying in the cabin, you should book that reservation just about as soon as you can.

We’ve got camporees coming up too, right?

We do.

There are camporees at Beaumont and at Firelands this September and October. With Webelos Woods camp outs attached to them. So the Webelos can come out and get a feel for the different troops and how they run their programs. It's a swinging deal and a good program being planned for all! So go ahead and register for those, if you have any questions reach out to Anthony for the one at Beaumont and Jess Weaver for the one at Firelands.

What else do we have, Drew?

The last thing on the three minute update we have is Ace Resources.

Ah yes, Ace Resources. Folks, remember that if your families in Scouting are paying for their national BSA registration dues to the units via cash or check, they need a unit issued receipt. You can access that receipt at lecbsa.org/ace or by emailing anyone of us on the field team. We’d be happy to get you in touch with that. That receipt needs to get filled out by you, the unit, to be able to give to the family so that they can submit it to their ACE portal for reimbursement.

Let's see here, I think that's about it. Drew, you've got a countdown clock going in the middle there, I'm sure I went over.

Just a bit.

We’ll get to 3 minutes next week folks, thanks for all you do, and thanks for being you. We'll see you next time take care.

LEC 3 Minute Update - August 31, 2023

Mornin’, all! We’re trying a new, space-agey background for this week’s three minute update, and the countdown clock is on! Will this be less than three minutes? I bet you know the answer!

In this week’s three minute update we have:  Cub Haunted, Camporees, ACE resources, training resources, Scouting for food updates, and Scout Shop sales.

If you need recruitment materials, remember to use our Membership Resources Request form to request flyers, school talks, printed materials, giveaways, and anything else you need for your recruitment efforts this fall! On a related note, we’ve had some technical difficulties with our recorded webinars explaining our recruitment resources for this fall. Those glitches are fixed, and you can watch the recordings at the same link.

Shoutout to Packs six fifty-two, twenty-eight, sixty-seven, thirty thirty-one, and Troop 143 for submitting their Scouting for Food results. These units alone collected and donated over 1200 lbs of food! If you have completed Scouting for Food, or will soon, please use this link to record your results. Let Michelle Cali know if you have any questions.

Here’s a new ACE Update, everyone! If new families register online, their online receipt of registration fees paid is what they’ll use to submit to their ACE portal. If a family pays you, the unit, with cash or check, there is a fillable document that the Unit Leader must sign and give to the family for reimbursement to ACE. You can find that form here. Learn more about ACE by going to lecbsa.org/ace

Now, for this week’s fun fact: what did the walleye say to the carp at the haberdasherie? You look so so-fish-ticated in that suit!

Oh, and speaking of Lake Erie fish, there’s an amazing service opportunity for Scouts on the weekend of October 3rd. ODNR is seeking Scouts to help clean up the shores and lands of Geneva State Park. In return, Scouts can camp on the beach! Check out this link for more information, and reach out to Jim Vanderpool for questions. Cost is $3.00 per participant, and that is for the commemorative patch.

The FEST is also August 6 at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe. The Catholic Committee on Scouting is looking for Scouts and Scouters to help with Cub Scout activities and take part in the mass procession and communion, as well as volunteers to man the Scouting station for any passers-by looking to get more information! It’s a great way to recruit, and the Catholic Committee will even make sure you get some food and decent parking out the mix! Volunteers are welcome for the whole day, or just a shift: all time given is appreciated! Contact Tony for more information.

Lastly, the St. George Trek is a chance for young people to discern their religious vocation. The next trek is in July 2024, and will take place at Philmont with other discerning youths. The Diocese of Cleveland offers two spaces for interested young people, and scholarships are available for those committed to attend. Any questions about this trek should be emailed to Jim Hickey

And that’s a wrap for this week’s three-minute update! Thanks for all you do and thanks for being you! I’ll see you next week, take care!
