LEC 3 Minute Update - August 24, 2023

Ahoy, Scouts and Scouters! You know, one of my favorite things to do to help reduce further climate impact is to commute to and from work by canoe! You might be wondering what waterway takes me from Lake County into downtown. Well, it’s just like the old song goes: “Jack, take my way: it’s the highway! That’s the best!” Oh yes, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of floating down I-90 on the shoreway!

Alrighty folks, in this week’s three minute update we have: popcorn, Cub Haunted, Camporees, Recruitment resources, ACE resources, training resources, and Scout Shop sales.

If you need recruitment materials, remember to use our Membership Resources Request form to request flyers, school talks, printed materials, giveaways, and anything else you need for your recruitment efforts this fall!

The show and sell popcorn order deadline is August 28th. Questions go to Heather McMillan. Orders must be placed through the Trails’ End portal. If your unit has yet to register for the popcorn sale, you can do so at this link

Ohio’s ACE program is something every Scouting family should be aware of! Learn more about potential Scouting fee reimbursements you may be eligible for by going to lecbsa.org/ace

Those needing BALOO training and Scoutmaster Basic Training can also register here: courses are scheduled for September and October. You can contact me with your questions!

You can register now for in-person trainings for your positions! Send me any questions. You can also tell me if you’re interested in being a trainer for these courses.

Speaking of trainings, there will be a lifeguard training at Firelands on September 10th. The cost is free, and comes with a stipulation that you’re okay being on our list of folks to call and help staff future Scouting activities. You have to be at least 15 to take the training, and if you’d like to renew your certification, you still have to demonstrate your skills and pass the written test. Questions go to Jess Weaver

Cub Haunted registration is now open! Those looking to attend can sign up now! And register soon, especially if you’re looking to reserve a Troop Lodge, because they’re almost all booked already! Troop members interested in helping at Cub Haunted can contact Jess.

Troops interested in camping this fall should register for the Fall Camporee at Firelands happening October 6-8. The earle bird deadline is only a month away, so sign up and and send Jess your questions!

We’re hosting another rock wall training August 31st from 6-9 at the Unit Service Center. Register here, and email Mike with questions.

Lastly, folks, know that the Cleveland Scout Shop has some swingin’ deals for you! Through October 29th, you can save 10% off uniform bottoms when you purchase a top!

And that’s a wrap for this week’s three-minute update! Stay dry as best you can out there. Thanks for all you do and thanks for being you! I’ll see you next week. Land Ho!
