LEC 3 Minute Update – July 7, 2021

Greetings from Beaumont Scout Reservation! It’s hot folks. How hot is it? I saw cooking merit badge frying steaks on the boat dock, that’s how hot it is.

I mean its so hot, I’m going to keep this update within 3 minutes, that’s how hot it is!

So today, we’ve got the following updates: the faith-in-scouting program, upcoming events, Firelands Trading Post updates, Cleveland Scout Shop updates, a note to merit badge counselors, and a recruitment update.

First, there’s a faith-in-scouting open house happening on July 29th, from 11 to 2, out here at Beaumont. If you represent (or are close with) a religious organization who hosts or is hosting a Scouting program, you’re invited! Lunch is provided, please contact Jason Setser for details and to RSVP, his email is below.

So, folks, there are too many upcoming events to list out in this update: but please know there’s still time to register for Woodbadge, Family Camping at Beaumont, the 75th camporall, the silver screen overnighter, and the cybersecurity boot camp! And if you haven’t put together your late summer/fall/winter schedule yet for your unit, well, check out the Council calendar! I promise you won’t be bored!

At the Cleveland Scout Shop, there’s a sale for camping gear: buy any 3 camping gear items and get 25% off! Now that’s, you guessed it, a swingin’ deal! You’ve got until July 18th to save lots! Questions? Call the Cleveland Scout Shop!

And in the west, the Firelands Trading Post and Scout Store has green Lake Erie Council T-shirts for sale, along with… ice cream!! Stop in today!

For all you merit badge counselors out there: check your email! You should have received one from council detailing the renewal procedures for maintaining your membership. If you haven’t gotten one but should have, email Heather McMillan.

In the world of popcorn, we have a bittsersweet announcement: Kallee Kissling is headed off, into the wild blue yonder, back to her original home of Wisconsin. We’ll miss you, Kallee. Be sure to grill a brat and dunk it in cheese for me when you get there, and tell your folks I says hi.

And for the rest of us: your popcorn inquiries now go to…

…hold on let me spin the wheel of staff members: around and around and around it goes, and where it stops, nobody, knows! Oh, it looks like Heather McMillan! She’s not here to argue, so yes! Send Heather all of your popcorn and scout’s own questions.

Lastly, a friendly reminder to all Den Leaders, Cubmasters, and Committee Chairs: we’re talking recruitment! Cubmasters are meeting Wednesday at 7, and Committee Chairs are meeting Thursday at 7. Den leaders, Cubmasters, and Committee Chairs will have the chance to attend next week as well on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, respectively: please see the script for zoom links.

Can’t make it next week? We’ll have them again (same topic) the week after:

  • Membership Tip of the week: Updating your BeAScout Pin.

    • Make sure you have as much information as possible

    • Make sure the right person is listed

    • If you have a website, make sure it still works. If it doesn’t, remove it!

    • Don’t know how to update it? Go to https://lecbsa.org/membership-resources (lecbsa.org > resources > membership resources) or contact us at LECMemberCare@Scouting.org

It may be hot, and I may be tired, but I know the best time to welcome new scouts into the movement is right now. If you’re wondering what you can do to help the BSA right now, the answer is simple: empower everyone you know to speak about all of the amazing, positive things that have happened in their lives as a result of Scouting. Had fun at camp? Spread the word. Watched a Scout conquer their fear of heights? Spread the word! Witnessed teamwork at a pinewood derby? Spread the word! Seen you leadership skills increase ten-fold? Spread the word! There’s a lot to be proud of in Scouting within your world: make sure you can attest to that, and welcome other families with open arms.

And that’s a wrap for this week’s 3-minute update! Thanks for all you do, we’ll see you next week!
