Newly-elected OA members can complete their ordeal, and current OA members can complete their brotherhood, at this year’s summer induction “Salute to service” weekend at Beaumont from August 20-22nd. Other festivities will be available, and everyone will be able to compete for points in the Erielhonan Olympics. Will you be a medalist? Speaking of the 75th, did you know that all registrants will receive 3 meals on Saturday, plus a great day of program, midways and fireworks, PLUS a commemorative guidebook, PLUS a T-shirt!? You know, when we talk about recruitment, I think it’s important to discuss this. We as a movement have weathered bankruptcy, and covid at a national level, let alone our Council’s restructuring and other unit-based challenges. Our membership has shrunk a lot, it’s true. But we’re still here. We’re still getting ready for popcorn sales and campouts and recruitment drives. We do it because while all of us are here today, we won’t be forever. And because the positive impact of our movement deserves to reach as many youth as possible.
When you go out into the community supporting Scouting, the public may try to ask you about questions you don’t have the answers to. We, the Council, are here to help with that. But you are the expert of Scouting as it pertains to your unit, and your community. Do be prepared to talk about that. Be prepared to share how all your leaders have taken Youth Protection Training, and how all of the adults follow these guidelines to keep your Scouts safe. Be prepared to share how Scouting has affected the lives of your kids, bringing them out of their shells, building their confidence, teaching them teamwork. Be prepared to speak about how no Scout is left behind thanks to the budgeting process, using fundraisers throughout the year to guarantee opportunities to everyone in the Pack.
