LEC 3 Minute Update - July 13, 2023

Mornin’, all! I’m Tyler Matthews and I will be filling in for Jake while he enjoys his time off driving down the Pacific Coast.

This week we have activities updates, training updates, and service updates.

In the world of Cub Scouts, family dens are here to stay! Last year, more than 2,000 Cub Scout packs took part in a pilot program where dens of kindergarten through fourth grade Cub Scouts were formed with boys and girls. All Cub Scout packs may now form family dens from Lions to Webelos. Fifth-grade Cub Scouts, aka Arrow of Lights, are to remain in gender-specific dens to prepare them for joining a gender-specific Scouts BSA troop. Learn more at this link.

Moving on to Cub Scout activities, you can still register for the July session of S’more Cub adventures. We also have a Fishing Derby, Rocket Day, Lake Erie Crushers, Lake County Captains, and a Silver Screen Overnighter in August. Sign up now and check the council calendar for further information!

Scouting for Food is coming up next month. We encourage units to take part in this service project. Units can request door hangers and patches at this link. Contact Michelle if you have any questions.

Do you enjoy riding motorcycles? Do you know people who do as well? Then the Annual Ride for Scouting is your best opportunity to give back to Scouting while enjoying a scenic ride. Register here, and send your questions to Jason Setser.

Last week we shared a BIG update about Ohio’s After-school Child Enrichment (ACE). As a reminder, this program is a reimbursement system for families to be able to offer more activities for their children. Scouting membership fees and SOME activities DO qualify for reimbursement through ACE. You and your Scouting families should apply here to see if you’re eligible. We will share more information at our Membership Growth and Product Sale Trainings. Email Mike your questions.

Questions about training? For Range Safety Officer Training and Rangemaster Training, email Julia Hearne. For the August and September sessions of BALOO training and Scoutmaster Basic Training, you can contact Jake.

Additionally, the Lake Erie Council is proud to bring back in-person trainings for your positions! You can register now and send Jake any questions. You can also tell Jake if you’re interested in being a trainer for these courses.

Lastly, The FEST is August 6 at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe. The Catholic Committee on Scouting is looking for Scouts and Scouters to help with Cub Scout activities and take part in the mass procession and communion. Contact Tony for more details.

And that’s a wrap for this week’s three-minute update! Thanks for all you do and thanks for being you! Jake will see you next week, take care!
