3-Minute Update - May 9, 2024

Hey everyone! I’m Tyler Matthews coming to you from the Cahoon replica cabin in Bay Village. Did you know that this replica log cabin was built in 1976 by the Bay Village Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts? Pretty cool! With that, let’s get into this week’s news.

At the National Annual Meeting, the Boy Scouts of America announced that it will be changing its name to Scouting America. This change reflects our ongoing commitment to welcoming every youth in America to experience the benefits of Scouting. The name change will go into effect on February 8, 2025, our 115th birthday.

We embrace change at Lake Erie Council. From our inception, we have sought the new and experimental road ahead. In 2021, we created the new initiative, Great Lakes Adventures, where we deliver the Scouting program and life lessons to schools and students across Northern Ohio. Just this year, we transformed the Unit Service Center into the Adventure Lab where we can serve our local families in an urban setting. These innovative opportunities expose a whole group of young people to the Scouting programs in our community.

The council-wide pinewood derby and Swings N’ Things overnight event is happening on Saturday, June 8th . The price is $25 and the first 100 scouts to register get a patch to commemorate the event. In addition to the pinewood derby, campers will get access to go-karts, batting cages, mini golf, and the arcade. register now, and you can contact Julia Hearne with any questions.

May 13th is this years Stewards of Firelands event! Please help us with your pledge of membership. Become a steward by pledging your $100 tax deductible donation towards our pot from which we will spend on important improvements for our Scouts at Firelands. Send your question to Jess Weaver.
