LEC 3 Minute Update - March 30, 2023

Mornin’, all! And welcome to this week’s three minute update. I’m Jake Brown, coming to you from the fountain at Rockefeller Park. It’s a beautiful Spring day, and I just couldn’t help myself but to get outside and enjoy the weather for a bit. Of course, while I’m out here, I can’t help but notice there’s some litter lying around, and like a good Scout, I’m picking up what I can to make the park a little nicer. Which reminds me: Scouts Trash the Trash day is upcoming, and you should sign up for it! Special thanks go to Packs 3174 in Mentor and 3236 in Berlin Heights for leading the charge! Send your questions about this to Michelle.

Here’s what’s new in this week’s three minute-update: Camperships, Training updates, Cub Scout Activities, Camporees, and service opportunities, and Summer Camp job openings, and an important upcoming webinar from National.

Campership Application deadlines are upcoming! Summer Camp Camperships are due April 4th. NYLT Campership Applications are due April 15th, and Wood Badge Campership applications are due May 1st. Note that change from June 1st to May 1st, folks! Send Phil Williams any questions you have

Scouts can still register for ILST and NYLT this summer, ICYMI! Get the DL on leadership during an IRL opportunity of a lifetime. BTW, Dave Sechnick and Jen Folkman can your questions about the courses. Google can translate all of that text lingo. You know, I left this in here just to see if I could say it right the firs time, and I did! I love it when I can say my own jokes!

Moving on! Additionally, LEC is offering Wilderness First AidScoutmaster Basic Trainingand BALOO, as well as Rangemaster training at Beaumont and Firelands, are all upcoming over the next two months. Check out the Council calendar, and register now!

Wilderness Engineers at Beaumont: If you’re interested in helping, contact Chris and register here.

Beaver Day is a chance to give service to Firelands, and is open to youths and their units wishing to give service, in addition to adult volunteers who choose to do so as well. Troops can Register here, and contact Danny with your questions. Cub Packs MUST contact Danny BEFORE registering to make sure there are age-appropriate projects available.

Troops: come to Camporees this Spring! Beaumont’s Spring Camporee is in April, and contact Rob Burnham is you contact for questions. Firelands’ Camporee is in May, and Jess Weaver is your contact there. The weather is breaking! Come on out for some fun!

Cub Scouts: There’s a silver screen overnighter in Elyria this April, Tough Cubber, S’More Cub Adventures, and a Crushers’ Campout to fill your calendars with! Sign up for these things now!

Lastly, apply for a summer job at camp! You can do so here, send Anthony Dworning any questions you have.

Finally, the National office is hosting a webinar for Scouts BSA leaders to discuss the various resources that are available for Scouts with varying special needs or disabilities. The best way to ensure a quality program for all Scouts is to be prepared. So we encourage you to attend this free webinar on April 29th at 11am. You can register here.

Okay folks, that’s a wrap for this week’s three minute update! Thanks for all you do, and thanks for being you! We’ll see you next time!
