LEC 3 Minute Update - May 19, 2022

Hey, everyone! The rain has stopped, and it’s prime time to chill out and enjoy a warm afternoon in the shade at Beaumont. I hope you’re having as relaxing an afternoon as I am, because this is nice. :)

This week we have, the Eagle Scout Luncheon, the annual Celebration of Scouting, S’More Cub Adventures, Med Kits for Ukraine, Beaver Day, Firelands and Cleveland Scout Shop Updates, Rangemaster Training, S’More Cub Adventures, this week’s pro tip, and this week’s fun fact.

Thorlos Socks are 25% off at the Cleveland Scout Shop May 23 through June 19. Stop in and take advantage of this, you guessed it, swingin’ deal!

Any Eagle Scouts, parents/guardians of Eagle Scouts, and other guests of Eagle Scouts from the class of 2021 who will be attending the Annual Eagle Scout Luncheon on June 5th. Register today at this link.

The Firelands Scout Store will be closed on Memorial Day Weekend. After Memorial Day, it will not be open again until June 3rd. Make sure to follow them on Facebook to see the new summer hours for the store!

Thank you to all who have donated to the Med Kit drive for Ukraine. Kits continue to be dropped off and shipped to Ukraine to help those on the front lines. If you’re interested in donating some kits and learning how to put them together, please email me.

The American Red Cross has asked for Scouters and Scouts 16 and over with parental consent, to participate in blood drives across Northeast Ohio by donating blood. Be sure to check blood donor eligibility requirements on redcrossblood.org, and find blood drives near you at the same website. There’s one coming up at St. Vincent’s Hospital on May 24th, and interested blood donors can register at this link. Remember, each blood donation saves 3 lives, and that’s pretty helpful!

Beaver Day is a chance for Scouts and Scouters to give cheerful service to camp by helping beautify the place up. Register your unit now for the June 4th Beaver Day at Firelands by emailing the Firelands Camp Hosts at firelandscamphosts@gmail.com.

The Annual Celebration of Scouting will be June 24th in Eastlake! Register now to enjoy a fun, celebratory evening of camaraderie and congratulation for our Silver Beaver, Unit Scouter, Division Award of Merit, and Venturing Leadership Award recipients. Register now at this link.

And now, it’s time for this week’s fun fact: what’s the easiest way for marshmallows and graham crackers to talk back and forth? Why, it’s using s’more-se code!

Ah, oh I love that one!

Hey and speaking of S’mores, it’s a great idea to sign up your family for S’more Cub Adventures at Firelands this summer! Sessions run June 23-26 and July 21-24. Register at this link, and contact jlweaver1998@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Rangemaster Training for the mobile archery and BB gun ranges will be at Firelands on June 4th, so sign up today and contact Julia.Hearne@scouting.org with any questions.

Lastly, here’s this week’s pro tip. Some of you may, or may not, have heard about the Unit Money Earning Application. It’s a simple form, and it’s required to turn in each time your unit fundraises using projects that aren’t popcorn or Scout’s Own. It’s produced by national, and part, well, most, actually, of our job as the local council is to ensure that everyone is following national rules. And there are rules about what can and cannot be done as fundraisers for Scouting units. Funny enough, you can find them on the back of this form.

I share this with you not because I like paperwork, nor because I have a deep and burning desire to control your unit’s fundraising plans. Believe me, I’m busy enough at the Council and with my own life. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t remind everyone to fill out and submit this form 2 weeks prior to your non-Council fundraiser to lecmembercare@scouting.org.

If you find yourself deep in contemplation about why this form is required, please reflect on the following: without rules, we have no order. And without order, we have nothing.

If you still have questions, please contact me via email.

And that’s a wrap for this week’s 3 minute update! Thanks for all you do and thanks for being you! We’ll see you next week.
