Hey everyone! I’m Tyler Matthews coming to you from Disney Hollywood Studios where our camp director Anthony is currently recovering from summer camp. We have a jam-packed 3 minute update this week, so let’s get to it!
Just a couple of fall kickoff meetings remain. This Saturday, August 3rd, 12pm at the Avery Hand dining hall at Firelands, and a virtual one on Thursday, August 8th at 7 pm. Make your way over to the registration page to sign up, and reach out to your unit service executive with any questions.
Is your unit looking for recruitment opportunities? Lake Erie Council field staff are organizing recruitment events across the council in a few strategic areas, and we want your unit to be represented! September 5th, Rocky River Civics Center 6-7:30 pm. September 12th, Forestview Park 6-7:30 pm. September 14th Lorain County Community College 1-3 pm. September 15th Firelands Scout Reservation 1-3 pm. September 21st Kiwanis Park, 1-3 pm. We will be going out and inviting kids and families from all 7 counties of Lake Erie Council to come out to these events and meet all the potential scouting units they can join. If your pack or troop wants to be represented at any of these events, please reach out to your unit service executive for more information. Units will have a chance to win prizes for attending and scouts can win prizes for bringing along new friends to join!
Now speaking of fall, a couple of quick notes for units planning their recruitment events. You can request membership materials through our website but please be sure to allow for a 2-week fulfillment time on all requests. Contact your service executive with any questions. Additionally, units hoping to use the mobile climbing wall for their recruitment need to fill out the request form online. If you plan to facilitate running the wall yourself as a unit, you need 2 facilitators with current mobile rock wall training. The same is true for the mobile archery range. You will need to fill out a request and provide a trained rangemaster if you intend to run it yourselves.
ALL new Cub Scouts who register via BeAScout.org from August 1 through October 31, 2024, will receive a special Welcome Kit in the mail shortly after completing registration.
This Welcome Kit contains one car magnet, one sticker, one Scout Life Mini Magazine, and a Peer-to-Peer Recruiting card that provides details on how to recruit a friend into Cub Scouts and earn a FREE Recruiter Strip Emblem (SKU 219) at the Scout Shop!
A special reminder that individual membership renewal emails have started going out as the new membership renewal system has gone into effect. Scouts and volunteers will receive an email 30 days out to remind them to log in to renew their memberships online.
It's popcorn time! If your unit has not committed to this year’s popcorn sale yet, now is the time! To register for the sale head over to lecbsa.org/popcorn. Additionally, if your unit did not sell popcorn last year, but is thinking about getting back into it this year, reach out to Heather for a special offer.
It’s time for our annual Scouting for Food drive! Over 2 weekends in August, scouts will ask the community to donate food for our local food pantries! Door hangers are available now! Use the link on the council calendar to order yours, and patches will be available soon. Reach out to Chelsea with any questions.
