3-Minute Update - March 14, 2024

Hello, and welcome to this week’s WLEC broadcast. I’m Anthony Dworning, executive director and producer emeritus.

The Youth Resilience Summit is upcoming on April 19th. This summit will have presentations from top experts in fields like suicide prevention, mental health, special needs strategies, online safety, bullying, financial literacy, and more. Please help us by sharing this with everyone you know! Register now.

While I’d love to keep sharing the news, I should make myself abundantly clear: I strive to be and remain a director and producer emeritus. Hence, let me again pass the torch to Kevin Wassie. Kevin?

Hello Lake Erie Council family. I’m Kevin Wassie, and this is your three minute update for the third week of March. This week, I'm here to share news that the new Unit Bulletin Board is live. It's for units to share potential upcoming unit events or news with other units. Be in the know, and share your information there as well!

EDGE training, BALOO, Scoutmaster Basic, Wilderness First Aid, COPE Level 1 Training, Intro to Leadership Skills Training for youth, and the Wood Badge and NYLT course registrations are open now!

That’s all I have to share, because While I love filming the three minute update for Lake Erie Council, I love my job for the Longhorn Council in Texas even more. And who better to keep the Scouting flame burning bright than Jake: the king of taking 5 minutes to give us a three minute update. Jake?

Mornin’, all! Jake Brown here, coming to you from Edgewater Park. I love this winter, because it’s actually summer! And I think Kevin’s right, you know. Why hurry through a three minute update when you can take in this balmy weather and shift the pace of life right down into mozy. So, let’s dive right in! Do you have questions about the lottery and registration process, planning, crew organization, crew gear, personal equipment, or travel suggestions, If so, you can reach out to our Council Philmont Ambassador, Joseph Ferencie

Also, Wilderness Engineers is upcoming in May, and unlike years past, now you only have to be 18 to volunteer to do some hearty work to keep camp operating smooth and looking fresh! If you’d like to volunteer, or know of someone who should, please register and contact Chris Fortunato.

Now, while being the writer of the 3 minute update has been a weekly highlight for the last three years for me, it isn’t helping me much focus on my next career move. I think I’d like to take a page out of Anthony and Kevin’s playbook and give this here relay baton to Tyler Matthews. After all, he’s been a great me before! Tyler? Tyler, you there?

If I’m super quiet and don’t make a noise, they can’t find me. Nobody thinks to look in the coat closet.

Kevin, Anthony, I found Tyler! Hey, congratulations on becoming the new 3 minute anchor!
You’re going to do great!

You sure will, Tyler! We are all just thrilled that you’re taking over!

So this is real, this is happening? Jake, you’re leaving?

It’s very real, Tyler! And I know you’re going to do great things. Have fun with it, make it your own!

Yes, emphasis on your own!

Okay. It’ll be fine. It’ll be fun, I guess.

That’s the spirit!

That’s all the news here, everybody. I’m Tyler Matthews, and I’ll see you next week, and probably a lot more after that, too! I still don’t know how I want to do this yet, so I’ll steal Jake’s line for now: thanks for all you do, and thanks for being you!
