3-Minute Update - December 12, 2024

Hey everyone, I’m Tyler Matthews, and I’m filling out my unit renewal! Let me just click this…. Type in that…. Great. Now, I just need to sign this annual charter agreement…. And voila! We’re done! How is your unit’s renewal coming along? Remember, they’re due December 13 by 5pm. Complete renewals include: online submission, payment of the $100 charter fee, and the signed Annual Charter Agreement. Contact your Unit Service Executive for more information or stop by the Unit Service Center during normal business hours for in-person assistance. This is officially the last minute, so don’t delay!

An update to training requirements: all direct contact leaders will now be required to complete hazardous weather training. A notification will go out to all effected leaders from Scouting U. More information regarding safety training can be found at the health and safety website.

Please make sure your unit renewal is submitted.

Do you have old Scout Uniforms that you’ve outgrown, or just don’t need anymore? Well, they might be perfect for another scout who is just getting started. If you have uniforms that you’d like to donate to a good cause, email Laura Cvelbar at cubscoutuniformexchange@gmail.com.

Text your key 3 right now and ask if the unit renewal is completed.

Nominations are open for all levels of council awards. If you have someone you’d like to nominate for the Distinguished Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, or any other council awards, you can get the forms from our website and remember that nominations are due by December 15th.

Don’t forget those annual charter renewals are signed by the executive officer, charter org rep, and your committee chair before being sent to lake Erie council for us to sign as well.

Registrations are now open for this year’s Klondike campouts! January 10th-12th at Beaumont, January 17th-19th at Beaumont, January 24th-26th at Beaumont, and February 7th-9th at Firelands. Early bird deadline is December 28th, so don’t wait, get your troop signed up today!

There is a $100 late fee for any unit who hasn’t completed unit renewal by 5pm on Friday, December 13th. No one wants that!

Save the Date!  University of Scouting 2025 will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Lorain County JVS in Oberlin, OH.  The University of Scouting is a Council-wide supplemental training extravaganza for all Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing leaders as well Commissioners, Committee Members, and youth.  The best instructors available will help enhance your leadership skills to work with the youth of our communities.  Bring your unit’s Leadership Team so you can share the knowledge. We also offer courses suited to the needs and interests of Youth Scouts.

Look for Class registration coming January 2025.

Youth Protection needs to be up to date for all leaders on your roster when you go to submit that unit renewal. Make sure we’re at 100 percent!

The 2025 Wood Badge Breakfast is happening on Saturday, March 1st. More info is coming soon, but in the meantime, you can send questions to Linda Gray.

Text your unit service executive and ask them to double check that your unit renewal has been processed.

And lastly, I’m still looking for Dutch oven recipes that I can put into my “Lake Erie Council Guide to Dutch Oven Cooking” cookbook for my wood badge ticket. If you have a recipe for me, please email mewith your unit number, where you’re from, the recipe, and maybe even a picture of your Scouts making it. It would be a huge help. Thanks!

That’s it for this week folks! Until next time, please do your unit renewal. Now.
