Hey everyone, I’m Tyler Matthews coming to you from Plymouth Massachusetts, the site of the first Thanksgiving. This year, as Jake Brown would say, I’m thankful for all of you and for all you do. I’m also thankful for up-to-date youth protection training, completed unit renewals, and applications for new scouts! We’ve got some great news this week so let’s jump right in!
Unit renewals are due December 13. Complete renewals include online submission, payment of the $100 charter fee, and the signed Annual Charter Agreement. Contact your Unit Service Executive for more information or stop by the Unit Service Center during normal business hours for in-person assistance. Remember, the deadline is December 13th by 5 pm and there will be a late filing fee, so don’t let it go to the last minute! There are only about 10 more business days to get it in!
One more EDGE training session for this year, happening on December 8th at the council service center. Register now!
Do you have old Scout Uniforms that you’ve outgrown, or just don’t need anymore? Well, they might be perfect for another scout who is just getting started. If you have uniforms that you’d like to donate to a good cause, email Laura Cvelbar at cubscoutuniformexchange@gmail.com.
Registrations for Holidays at camp are open! Two festive weekends, December 7th and 14th at Firelands Scout reservation. Don’t miss out on wreath making, wagon rides and caroling, hot cocoa, Christmas cookies, and more Holiday cheer. Register now! If you’re interested in volunteering for the event, sign up here, and reach out to Jess if you’re interested!
The scout shop at the downtown service center is participating in a Holiday giving tree. November 9th through December 15th you can stop by the scout shop to see how you can help make a difference for a scout this holiday. If you have questions or want to get involved, you can email the scout shop!
Nominations are open for all levels of council awards. If you have someone you’d like to nominate for the Distinguished Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, or any other council awards, you can get the forms from our website and remember that nominations are due by December 15th.
Registrations are now open for this year’s Klondike campouts! January 10th-12th at Beaumont, January 17th-19th at Beaumont, January 24th-26th at Beaumont, and February 7th-9th at Firelands. Early bird deadline is December 28th, so don’t wait, get your troop signed up today!
Save the Date! University of Scouting 2025 will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Lorain County JVS in Oberlin, OH. The University of Scouting is a Council-wide supplemental training extravaganza for all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing leaders as well Commissioners, Committee Members, and youth. The best instructors available will help enhance your leadership skills to work with the youth of our communities. Bring your unit’s Leadership Team so you can share the knowledge. We also offer courses suited to the needs and interests of Youth Scouts.
Look for Class registration coming January 2025.
And lastly, I’m still looking for Dutch oven recipes that I can put into my “Lake Erie Council Guide to Dutch Oven Cooking” cookbook for my wood badge ticket. If you have a recipe for me, please email me with your unit number, where you’re from, the recipe, and maybe even a picture of your scouts making it. It would be a huge help. Thanks!
That’s it for this week folks! Remember, the council service center will be closed all Thanksgiving week to allow our staff to recharge and spend time with their families. I’ll see you in two weeks, and until then stay prepared, stay adventurous, and keep the spirit of Scouting alive!
